A house share is a house where the bedrooms are rented on an individual basis, and the communal rooms such as the kitchen, lounge and bathrooms are shared between the occupants of the house.
-
House sharing is much cheaper than renting a 1 or 2 bed flat or house by yourself. By sharing, it is often possible to live in a better area than would be possible if you were renting by yourself. In addition to the cost savings, house sharing is often a fun and sociable way to live. We try to rent our rooms to like-minded individuals and will turn people down if we think they are not the right housemates for our current clients.
-
We recognise that our clients want more than just a room; they want to be part of the Community. When you decide to live in one of our houses, you are choosing a unique way of living that only Righthousemate can provide. Far from being just a tenant who rents a room, you are embracing our ethos and become a member of a ready-made social network. We meet everyone that is interested in the rooms and are selective in only allowing people to move in who we feel will be a good fit with the current members. If you are new to Leicester, we provide detailed area guides and local insights into where to eat, drink, and party, allowing you to maximise your experience in Leicester.

Housemates must meet the following criteria:
- Aged between 23 and 45
- Must be a professional or a post-grad student
- No pets, unfortunately
- Be able to provide reference checks
We also have a one person per room policy, no one wants to get caught up in couples arguing. However, guests are allowed to stay 2 nights per week. It is your home after all!

Our houses are based in and around Leicester City. We select houses based on our strict location criteria. The properties are located in safe, residential locations, close to shops, leisure and entertainment facilities, with easy access to bus, cycle and car routes.
-
We provide single, double, and en-suite rooms on a first come, first served basis. Please click HERE for the latest availability.
-
As most of our housemates already have their own bedding, we do not normally provide this. We do, however, offer a bedding package (duvet, pillow, duvet cover) if required, at an additional charge. We provide a mattress protector for each room that should be used at all times.
-
All the bedrooms are fully furnished. Typically, each bedroom will have a divan bed, bedside cabinet, chest of drawers and wardrobe at a minimum.
-
Unfortunately we do not accept couples, pets, or children in our houses.
-
Unfortunately we do not accept students or tenants in receipt of housing benefits. We only accept working professionals in full time employment.
-
The rent you pay is an all-inclusive price. It covers council tax, gas and electricity, water rates, a TV licence for the communal areas, wireless broadband, Netflix, a bi-weekly cleaner and a gardener (where necessary). This means there won’t be any meetings around the table with your housemates working out who owes what for each bill… life’s too short for that nonsense.
-
The only other additional fee is a £200 admin fee, payable when you wish to reserve a room. This fee covers our expenses to pay for reference and credit checks and for an inventory of the room to be performed.
-
Yes, you will be expected to provide references from your employer and from your current landlord if you have one.
-
Yes, we do a credit check on everyone who wants to rent a room from us. We use an external company to perform this on our behalf. We may also request a guarantor, depending on individual circumstances.
-
No. Due to the type of housemates that stay in our houses, we trust them to look after the property.
-
The minimum rental contract is 6 months, after which the tenancy continues on a rolling monthly basis. We may be flexible on this on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us if you have particular requirements. There is no maximum limit to the length of time you can stay for, subject to timely payment of rent and adhering to the house rules.
-
You will be required to set up a monthly direct debit with your bank to pay the rent.
-
We require at least 1 months’ notice when you wish to move out subject to your fixed tenancy period having expired.
-
The responsibility to fill your room after you have left falls completely to us.
-
All housemates should have contents insurance for their own belongings.
-
You will be issued with an AST (Assured Shorthold Tenancy), which is a standard document for renting rooms and properties.
-
We provide ample cupboard, fridge and freezer space in the property. At a minimum, the kitchen appliances include an oven, hob and microwave.
-
We provide a gardener to cut and strim the grass on a regular basis and generally keep the garden tidy and weed free, where required.
-
We provide a bi-weekly cleaner. The cleaner is instructed to clean all the communal areas (for example, kitchen, lounge, bathrooms) but will not clean individual bedrooms. It is expected that all the housemates will do their bit to clean up after themselves and keep the house clean and tidy.
-
We provide wireless broadband access included in the rent.
-
Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the house, including bedrooms. If you want to smoke you must go outside.
-
We provide a TV, Netflix account, and TV license for the communal room for the use of all the housemates. If you wish to have a TV in your own bedroom then you must ensure you purchase a TV license for it.
-
Guests are permitted to stay on an occasional basis, weekends etc. However, partners are not allowed to stay long term as this can create pressure on kitchen and bathroom facilities that would then impact on the enjoyment of other housemates.
